The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam will begin renovation at the end of 2012 in order to ensure the condition of the building and the safety of the visitors in the long run, Axel Rüger, director of the museum, announced today. Masterpieces by Van Gogh, including approximately 75 paintings and a number of works on paper, will remain on view during the renovation: they will be presented in the Herenvleugel of the Hermitage Amsterdam as of October 2012.

the Art Parade has created 25 unique homes, all by different artists with the aim of Dutch art, to bring attention to a wide audience. The houses are exhibited in many different hotels.

Albus is has an honor to have an art parade house in the hotel.
This project is also linked to charity.

The main objective is to collect donations for charities like us WarChild. If you would like, you can donate through our reception. After you have donated €1,- You will receive form which you can fill in your name and in the letterbox of the house to stop. All letters will go in the draw of the houses.

Most likely this action will continue until the end of the year.

I spent several hours over a 2 week period looking at hotels before choosing the Albus. It was a combination of the location, the claims of a comfortable bed and the in room expresso machine that won me over.
It was the staff and the cozyness of the place that I fell in love with once I arrived. The lobby and coctail bar are a combined room and lead into the small dining area that is the Senses restaurant. The restaurant has its own intrance and is good enought to have a customer base that is not made up of hotel guests. It is pricey and the resident chef changes the multi-course special nightly. The one dinner we ate there was awesome.
The bed was as advertised and we slept well every night. The curtains are very dark making it easy to sleep late in the morning.(no alarm clock in the room). The bathroom has a switchable outlet for 110V and 220V devices. The shower head is huge and takes some getting used to. There is also a smaller sprayer attached to the tub spout and a retractable wire for hanging cloths. (came in handy the one night we got rained on). The expresso machine was stocked to make 4 cups each day.
The staff is what really makes this hotel. From the time we arrived till we walked out the door to leave I felt welcome. All request were met with polite enthusiasm and all of them were fulfilled.
Some side notes. there is a small grocery store just south of the hotel and an electronics store just north on the same street. The train station is a 25 min walk from the hotel(if you dont make any wrong turns) We walked from the train station to the hotel when we arrived and took the shuttle on the return trip to the airport.
If you like to walk this is the perfect Hotel to see Amsterdam from!

I earned some money when the hotel group where I worked was sold, but not enough to renovate the complete hotel immediately.''

Eight years later, the Albus is to his liking, almost. The renovation added a star to the hotel and now it has four****.

To reconstruct a hotel in times of crisis, is a recommendation Taco van der Meer gives to any hotelier. ''I could properly negotiate with contractors and suppliers. For the same money I now have realized a higher level.''

Van der Meer points to the lobby, dominated by a wine wall. Behind this wall the bar and restaurant are located, which according to Van der Meer could use some more local run.

An investment of 1.4 million euros is always a risk for a medium-sized hotel. ''I can surely feel the impact of the crisis. But the Albus is a hotel where the occupancy has always been at a high level. Only recently he was just below the ninety percent.'' For the record: the average occupancy rate in Amsterdam last year was 67.5 percent.

Van der Meer has thoroughly addressed the renovation. He had three design agencies pitching against each other. He had picked the bedsides himself. Was involved in the development of interactive multimedia TVs in the rooms. And stayed at thirty or forty hotels to gain inspiration. ''What I did notice, was that of twenty of the hotel were all quite similar. I wanted something new.''

according to van der Meer, most three and four star hotels of Amsterdam differ little from each other. Amsterdam is developing as an innovative, creative city. Especially as a smaller hotel you have to fit in.''

He mentions neighbor Banks Mansion, Hotel V, the College Hotel, The Dylan and Toren Hotel as examples of small hotels who make a difference. ''In the last ten years the gray palette has slowly gained color. But within the 322 hotels it is too little.''

Quality listening closely. Van der Meer postponed the reopening of his hotel from May to September, because the ordered design chairs for the rooms weren't delivered on time. ''I will not open my hotel with plastic chairs in the rooms.''(HERMAN STIL) 16-09-10 16:14

THE ALBUS in AMSTERDAM ENHANCES GUEST EXPERIENCE THROUGH SENSIQ COMMUNICATIONS PORTAL 

The Albus, a four star Hotel in Amsterdam has taken the step to move beyond offering just pay TV to its guests by installing Quadriga's guest communications portal Sensiq, and using the TV as a vehicle to improve guest communications and provide potential new revenue streams.

The portal will provide the hotel with a communications channel to push information about the local area - including shopping, culture and entertainment - as well as inform guests about services and special promotions within the hotel across its leisure and dining facilities. As part of this new initiative, the hotel has also updated all 74 rooms with new Philips 32-inch flat screen LCDs, to provide a state of the art system to add to the luxurious feel of the hotel and enhance the overall guest experience.

Taco van der Meer, director of The Albus, comments: "We needed a solution which provided a return on investment and additional revenue generation opportunities. Sensiq offers this capability and much more. The system still allows us to offer a great range of entertainment content, but it also enables us to use it as a true portal to communicate with leisure and business guests, providing additional information to help them make the most of their stay in Amsterdam."

"Quadriga's Sensiq also enables us to promote our hotel services and facilities directly to our guests in their rooms, which provides us with potential new revenue streams." he adds.

THE ALBUS HOTEL GETS ITS FOURTH STAR

Amsterdam, May 3d, 2010

The Albus Hotel, at de Vijzelstraat in the very heart of Amsterdam, has been selected by the 'Nederlandse Hotel Classificatie' (Dutch Hotel Classification) as a 4 star Hotel. Before, the hotel had 3 stars.

To candidate for the 4 star rating, a hotel has to meet all 4 star regulations and requirements. Apart from that, a minimum of 73 points has to be earned regarding 4 star requirements.  The Albus Hotel got even 92 of these; way over par!!

Becoming a 4 star hotel was celebrated within the hotel organization, with bubbles and speeches. The plate with the indication of a 4 star hotel was proudly placed at the entrance of the hotel.

General Manager Taco van der Meer of the Albus Hotel showed great pride in obtaining the fourth star.

"This means a lot to us. We all worked hard to achieve this. For instance, we now offer room service from 07.00-23.00 hours and every room is equipped with a laptop safe and charger. The official acknowledgement to be a 4 star hotel confirms our goal to offer top service. Add to that, the fact that our staff are more than 100% committed to please the guest, and you will find that our underline ´ the pearl of Amsterdam' is very valid.  Soon our hotel will be officially re-opened after total refurbishment.  The many reservations we receive prove that there are high expectations", says Van der Meer.

On April 1st the lounge and lobby have completely been renovated, with a splendid result...

Beside this, all 68 of 74 rooms have been finished. From now on there will not be any form of nuisance. Do not hesitate and visit us to taste the new atmosphere! 

By this coming Monday, the 15th of March, we will already have finished floor 4- 8! In total 35 rooms ....

Beside the rooms, the reception desk will be replaced and upgraded with designer furniture, a lounge-bar and a business corner. The metamorphose of the ground floor will be realized within 2 weeks.

We look forward to a flexible continuation of the renovation and we will assure that you and your guests will be pleasantly surprised by the new style of the Albus Grand Hotel!
