Fifteen-year-old designer hotel The Albus has been renovated

Fifteen-year-old designer hotel The Albus has been renovated 1st April

Gold leaf on the doors and a rain shower in your hotel room

Mix together a generous dose of design and a touch of glamour and you get the new The Albus hotel. This four-star Superior boutique designer hotel on the Vijzelstraat in the hip and bustling heart of Amsterdam has been open for fifteen years, and over the past year its bathrooms and corridors, among other things, have been given a makeover. You can now shower in style at The Albus, and on the way to your hotel room you can enjoy the photographic art and gold leaf on the walls of the corridors. Like all modern hotels, ‘going green’ was high on the priority list, so a completely new air conditioning system was installed. And with great success. The Albus can now proudly claim to be the first hotel in Europe that produces zero CO2 emissions.

The Albus is known for its designer furniture by a variety of designers such as Eileen Gray, Marc Sadler, Enzo Catellani and Per Weiss. You can linger in luxury in the lobby, admiring the striking artworks on the walls. Seven years ago, the hotel was already thoroughly renovated and transformed into a four-star boutique designer hotel. This included the opening of the unconventional and creative Senses restaurant that is part of the hotel. Even so, the owner Taco van der Meer decided that a few more changes were necessary to give the hotel an even more luxurious feel. That is why more renovations were carried out.

Showering in style

We all know and love them: rain showers. The Albus Hotel has them installed in every room. And that’s not all: the bathrooms also feature a designer washbasin specially designed for The Albus, as well as heated and illuminated mirrors for a perfect make-up or shaving experience. And you’ll smell great too: to top it all off, a delightful new line of soaps is being developed. True luxury!

Not just the 75 bathrooms, but also the corridors have undergone a transformation. How about real gold leaf on the doors, new atmospheric lighting, and art on the cobalt blue walls for that extra boutique feel? More than enough reasons to play the tourist in your own city or country and book a room.

Feel the senses

Perhaps you did not know, but The Albus has its own top restaurant. Senses by Lars Bertelsen is even in the top-500 list by the Lekker restaurant guide and in the Michelin guide for the Netherlands. The three to the six-course menu at Senses is definitely worth tasting. Lars Bertelsen is specialized in the creation of unconventional dishes with unusual texture and taste combinations. Like pork cheek or deer with a gingerbread croûte. All of these surprising dishes are prepared using fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients. Embark on your own journey of discovery and make the best possible use of all five of your senses. Yummy…
